Man Minus One is a collection of audio and video media created by Jim Allenspach, a man just like you. He lives and breathes in Chicago, IL.
In case you were wondering what the phrase “Man Minus One” means, read on. If you weren’t, you can safely skip the next paragraph.
The concept was developed during a screening of the excellent turntablist movie Scratch. (Seen it? No? You should.) At one point during the movie there’s a discussion of DJ names, and how DJs tend to pick a grand name that pumps up their reputation. And as I was sitting there thinking about all of these great DJs that were in the film, I tried to come up with the least boastful DJ name I could. The idea of “Man Minus One” was intended to be similar to the “Music Minus One” concept, in which music was recorded without a certain lead instrument (guitar, bass, drums, etc.) and the listener would provide the missing component. In the case of “Man Minus One” the content is provided to the listener or viewer, but the actual human element has been removed. It is up to you to add in that basic human element.
